Consumer inflation in Ukraine is accelerating: in May it was 17% in annual terms after 16.4% in April. This is evidenced by the macroeconomic and monetary review NBU.
The NBU reports that supply-side shocks remain the main factors for accelerating inflation: disruption of production and logistics routes; destruction of facilities and infrastructure; occupation of territories.
“The consequence of this is the emergence of local and / or temporary shortages (fuel, salt), an increase in business costs, a shock increase in prices in the occupied territories,” the review says.
In addition, according to the NBU, inflation expectations are deteriorating.
“A moderate acceleration in prices for services and non-food products may reflect the increased impact of lower consumer demand,” the NBU said.
According to the NBU, inflation is curbed by the introduction by the Cabinet of Ministers of a moratorium on raising tariffs for heat and gas distribution for the period of martial law and 6 months after its completion.
Recall that the Cabinet approved the food security plan.
