Sixth game suspended this season, and already the fifth in less than a week. Due to a positive test and contact tracing conducted within the Washington Wizards organization, the NBA has announced that it has postponed Wednesday night’s matchup between Utah and Washington.
“Due to ongoing follow-up contacts with the Wizards, the team does not have the eight available players required by the League to continue tomorrow’s game against the Jazz,” said the statement released by the NBA on Tuesday afternoon.
Rui Hachimura and Moe Wagner, Wizards players, are included in the coronavirus protocol. After the game in question suspended, the Washington team is scheduled to play again Friday night in Detroit; although there is still no information on the status of that encounter.
Washington’s best player, Bradley Beal, could not be present at Saturday’s game against Miami, after hugging Jayson Tatum in the game against Boston and the Celtics star entering the NBA’s tracking protocol. Eventually Beal tested negative and was able to be part of Monday’s game against Phoenix.
In accordance with this information, the Wizards have decided to close their training center until they have a clearer view of the traces that the franchise and NBA are carrying out as part of the protocol for the coronavirus.
In response to the increase in cases in recent days, the NBA, the players union and the League’s Board of Governors have established a new set of protocols for the next two weeks. Among them are stricter guidelines for the use of masks and the reduction of those contacts considered unnecessary that were before or after the matches.
