The NATO Secretary General is staying because of the second attempt at a Ukrainian counter-offensive – 2024-08-24 23:27:10

/ world today news/ Contrary to previous plans and statements, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg officially announced an extension of his powers for another year – until October 2024. The changes in his fate are clearly connected with the failure of the “Counteroffensive of the Armed Forces”. Now he, in “tandem” with Ursula von der Leyen, is forced to prepare another operation, but with fighters.

In mid-May, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg officially prepared for retirement, having been the most powerful secretary general of the North Atlantic alliance since its existence. But in the end it was decided to extend his tenure for another year.

From the comments published in this regard by the Western media, it follows that during these two months the key players have not reached a consensus. The most promising candidate, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, was said not to fit in because he was too active on military supplies to Kiev and therefore did not sit well with US President Joe Biden. But these comments benefit Joe Biden, whose team creates the illusion in the media that “peaceful old Joe” is not a “hawk” at all (it’s not fashionable now, and many voters do not like such things), while at the same time firmly holding leadership in the Ukrainian coalition.

In truth, Wallace had no chance from the start, and no amount of counseling could change that. He is unacceptable to touchy-feely “old Europeans” as part of the Brexit team and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, whom, for example, French President Emmanuel Macron can’t stand. So the reasons for the change in Stoltenberg’s fortunes are hardly worth looking for in the field of “bulldogs under the carpet”. They are on the surface.

The reason for this is the failure of the so-called counteroffensive of the ASU, which was the main bet of the West during this political season. There were many plans, but the Ukrainians advanced half a step – to Pyatihatka, to enter there in a sack of fire. But back in the spring, Ukrainian and NATO experts supporting them talked about July battles on the border with Crimea.

It was assumed that “then Russia will become more compliant.” But for now, the truth is on the side of those Europeans (and they are the majority), who from the very beginning considered the scenario of a “military defeat” of the armed forces of the Russian Federation to be unrealistic.

But the predictions of the optimists, who thought that after the failure of the “counteroffensive” the West would become more compliant, did not come true either. Keeping Stoltenberg in office is clear evidence that Ukraine will be prepared for a second attempt after the offensive potential of the NATO-trained and armed units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is exhausted (ie liquidated by the Russians). In other words, by the spring of 2024, everything will repeat itself. Only the new “counterattack” will be with NATO fighters (which they failed to deliver for this one). Other equipment has long since begun to be forged in the defense enterprises of Western countries – and will be forged for the second attempt.

Just as there were leaks that Stoltenberg would be kept in office, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen called for doubling aid to Ukraine, ensuring “continuous funding for the coming years” and providing “everything necessary to achieve victory on the spot. “

Afterwards, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also said that support for Ukraine should be seen as long-term – “for another year, two, three, and if necessary more”. But Ursula, along with Stoltenberg, became the West’s key managers of training and equipping the ASU outside the US. Over the past year and a half, the political weight of both his and her posts has grown significantly.

It seems that she will replace Stoltenberg at the head of the NATO secretariat on October 1, 2024, since her powers as head of the EC expire a little later – on December 1. Ursula Biden is more than happy, so brothel reform by rearranging the beds seems like the most likely scenario.

Numerous other candidates (namely female candidates) that the Eastern Europeans wanted to push into the secretariat to strengthen their own and anti-Russian positions under the slogan “put women forward” will not collect the necessary number of points in terms of experience, skills and trust of the “hawks” .

It won’t work, of course (in the sense of Russia’s military defeat), but the main scenario now is this: there will be a second attempt. The West spares neither the money nor the Ukrainians – “everything for the front”. These plans can fail in only one case: if the “summer-autumn” campaign of the VSU leads not to failure for Ukraine, but to disaster. If the armed forces of the Russian Federation not only hold back the attack, but also go into their own counteroffensive, collapsing the Ukrainian front in critical sectors. If the idea is established that each new month of the conflict and each new “counterattack attempt” increases its cost not only in billions of dollars and human lives, but also in Ukrainian territories. If the “failure of the operation” leads to the political bankruptcy of its organizers – above all to Biden, who has elections next fall, but also to Olaf Scholz and Ursula von der Leyen.

And in the case of a deaf defense of the Russian Federation with a slow advance in Donbass, as was the case in recent months, either the old or the new “VIPs” in the West will be on duty, coordinating the “third attempt” of the counteroffensive of the armed forces of Ukraine. and then the fourth, fifth, sixth – and so on until the Ukrainians are physically exhausted.

The West’s current policy in Ukraine of “counter-offensives” is not something one can simply “stand up to”. It must be broken, breaking the vicious circle. Next year, Stoltenberg and Ursula should not just leave their posts, but leave in disgrace. Only the Russian army can achieve this – there is simply no one else.
