Coach Capobianco’s national women’s team arrives in Genoa for the FIBA Women’s challenge
EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.
The match against the Czech Republic, scheduled for November 7th at 6.15pm, will also be the official inauguration of the new PalaSport in Genoa.
The invitations for the Gathering, which will begin on November 3 in Genoa, have been published: among them also the Ligurian Arianna Arado.
Genoa returns to host a match for the Italian team 50 years after the match between Italy and France on 23 July 1974.
The event is part of the schedule of “Genoa European Capital of Sport 2024” and will be the first major sporting event hosted in the new PalaSport in Genoa. An opportunity to support the Azzurre, who are preparing to play a European Championship in 2025, with a group stage for the first time in Italy after 18 years, more precisely at the PalaDozza in Bologna.
Italy returns to organize a round of the Women’s European Championship 18 years after the edition hosted by Abruzzo, the eighth time for our country. No other nation boasts the same record, followed by France with 5 editions and Hungary with 4.
In 1938 it was Rome’s turn and the Azzurre won the Gold, in 1968 Sicily (Catania, Ragusa, Palermo, Messina), in 1974 Sardinia (Sassari, Nuoro, Cagliari), in 1981 Marche (Ancona, Senigallia ), in 1985 from Veneto (Vicenza, Treviso), in 1993 from Umbria (Perugia) and in 2007 from Abruzzo.
Coach Capobianco’s team will face the Czech Republic in Genoa and then on Sunday 10 November at 1.45pm against Greece in Athens.
For Arianna Arado, recent bronze with the Azzurrine at the U20 European Championship in Lithuania, currently playing
at BCC Derthona and who is fresh from a season of growth with San Martino di Lupari, Genoa’s first call-up to a long list of the Senior National Team. For her it is a return to Genoa just over a month after the award as “Best Young Player” of Serie A1 at the Aquarium on the occasion of the LBF Opening Day. There will be two Ligurians present: the technical staff also includes Jacopo Arrobbio, Territorial Representative of the Physical Trainers in the Liguria Regional Committee of the FIP, in his role as physical trainer of the national team.
