Monday’s tests for coronavirus in the Czech national football team at the meeting before the matches in Cyprus, Israel and Scotland revealed one infected player from Pilsen.
The trio of nominated Viktoria players, midfielders Lukáš Kalvach and Jan Kopic, and forward Zdeněk Ondrášek therefore left the national team. The management of the national team negotiates substitutes.
The players passed the first of three tests during the October meeting in Prague on Monday. Until the results of the samples, all members of the national team, including the implementation team, were isolated in hotel rooms. On Tuesday morning, the team will fly to Cyprus, where they will play a preparatory match on Wednesday.
“During Monday’s testing at the hotel, which took place in isolation of all present, one test of Viktorie Plzeň was evaluated as positive. Because this player came into contact with his two club teammates before the meeting, the whole trio Kalvach, Kopic, Ondrášek left the national team before Tuesday’s departure to Cyprus, without coming into contact with the rest of the Czech national team, “Michal Jurman, a spokesman for the Football Association of the Czech Republic, told reporters.
“It’s a complication. Three players are quite enough, but unfortunately the time is such. So we had to be prepared for this alternative and we will call other players,” said assistant national coach Jiří Chytrý.
Already at the end of last week, the entire implementation team and other FACR employees, who will come into contact with the national team, were tested in addition to the mandatory sampling. The results of all persons were negative. The next wave of tests awaits the national team before Sunday’s match of the League of Nations in Israel and the third sampling before the duel in Scotland, where the Czechs will present themselves on October 14.
Coronavirus significantly complicated the situation for the national team in September. Due to two positive tests for covid-19 in the members of the implementation team, the team had to isolate after winning 3: 1 in Slovakia. The ensuing match with Scotland (1: 2) played a hastily made new selection.
“We hoped it wouldn’t end like this this time. Unfortunately, 100% protection may not be at this time. We wanted to do our best so that the measures do not have to be as drastic as last time. I hope it paid off. We are able to call in more players and isolate. “those who were in contact with the positively tested player. So we can continue and we are happy for that,” said Chytrý.
