The national selfishness of some countries prevails over the common interest in the EU –

/ world today news/ On the occasion of the conclusion without an agreement of the summit of European leaders on the next EU budget for 2014-2020, Ivaylo Kalfin, rapporteur of the European Parliament on the long-term budget of the EU, stated:

“The interruption of the budget negotiations is bad news, because the European leaders once again prove that they cannot agree on important issues for the union. The national egoism of some countries prevails over the common interest, and in this sense it is better that the meeting ended without result than if a bad budget had been agreed.

In the latest proposal of the President of the EU Council Mr. Herman van Rompuy for Bulgaria, there are a number of issues that pose a problem. Such are the additional cutting of the ceiling of the cohesion fund, the complication of the conditions for using the money, the reduction of money for competitiveness, for science and for youth exchange, the reduction of funds for migration policy. The only somewhat positive news was the known increase in compensation for the closed reactors of the Kozloduy NPP, but the proposed 260 mln. euros are far less than the 450 million euros requested by Bulgaria.”
