Tokyo (VNA) The “FAVIJA CHAMPIONS CUP 2024”, a national football championship for Vietnamese in Japan, concluded on November 24 in Saitama Prefecture.
The tournament brought together 32 teams that had won first, second or third place in regional competitions in seven areas of Japan: Kanto, Chubu, Tokai, Kansai, Hokuriku, Chugoku and Kyushu.
Held by the Vietnam-Japan International Exchange Organization (FAVIJA), with the support of the Hanoi Embassy in Tokyo and local authorities, the matches were held simultaneously on eight fields at the Resland Sports Complex in Saitama.
At the opening ceremony, Vu Tien Han, representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, stated that the Vietnamese community currently numbers more than 600,000 people, most of whom are young people.
The “FAVIJA CHAMPIONS CUP 2024” offers entertainment, sports and health opportunities, while fostering stronger connections within the community and with the Japanese people, he highlighted.
For his part, Do Quang Ba, president of FAVIJA, reiterated that the goal of the tournament was not only to promote physical fitness, but also to create a healthy space for the Vietnamese community to come together and help each other overcome challenges in a country foreign.
After an exciting day of competition, the title of champion of the “FAVIJA CHAMPIONS CUP 2024” was won by FC T-Connect Binh Dinh. FC Asahi finished in second place, while FC ISC and FC Uni-co Hai Phong shared third place.
The Organizing Committee also awarded individual honors: Pablo Miura of FC ISC was named top scorer, Trinh Huynh Anh Minh of FC Asahi was recognized as best goalkeeper and Tran Thang of FC T-Connect Bình Định was awarded best player.
According to FAVIJA, the tournament had a record participation, with 232 teams participating in the qualifying rounds from March 17 to October 27./.
