The National first headliner at brand new festival in Zeebrugge | Music

MUSICThe coast seems more and more to be the mecca for music lovers. In addition to ‘Tien Om Te Zien’, We Can Dance and Ostend Beach Festival, Live is Live will be added next summer, with concerts on the beach of Zeebrugge. With their first headliner, The National, the organization hopes to attract 20,000 concertgoers daily. “We want to move away from the traditional festival idea, so leave your old T-shirt and army bones at home,” says organizer Jan Digneffe.

Those who like to combine a visit to the coast with a dash of music can visit Zeebrugge on Friday 17, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June 2022. Then the first edition of the concert series ‘Live is Live’ will take place. Organizer FKP Scorpio does not want to call it a festival, because they say they set the bar just a little higher. “We are not trying to set up yet another festival”, according to organizer Jan Digneffe. “This is an outdoor performance with the comfort of a modern concert hall. So people will not all be crammed together, but have room to dance. We want to get rid of the idea of ’put on your old T-shirt and army bones’.”

The concert series will take place on the beach, giving music lovers the perfect opportunity to bring their towel and enjoy music with their feet in the sand. In addition, the organization also provides a stand. “For a little extra, our concert-goers can also enjoy the performances seated. Everyone also has a view of the sea, which makes this concept extra unique.” Due to the proximity of the touristic Bruges and Knokke, there will be no camping site. “Those who come to the festival can immediately combine this with a city trip.”

No short festival set

The full line-up remains a secret for a while, but the first headliner has already been released. The National will be on stage on Friday 17 June. “Here too we distinguish ourselves from other festivals, because we opt for one large stage where artists can give a full concert, instead of a shorter festival set. So there is no block schedule, where music lovers have to rush from one stage to the other so as not to miss anything.” In addition to The National, there are four other groups on stage that day. On the other two days, five bands will make an appearance every day.

In addition to music, FKP Scorpio also provides striking catering. The organization works together with the team of Best Kept Secret, a festival that focuses on food & drinks. The organization strives for diverse and sustainable food, including vegetarian meals, soup and juices.

60,000 concertgoers

Live is Live hopes for a first successful edition with 20,000 concertgoers every day. That makes 60,000 visitors in three days. The organization also wants to return annually and hopes that omikron or a next variant will not throw a spanner in the works. “We hope to enjoy this new concept for many years to come. As a young guest I was also a student at the beach rock festival in Zeebrugge, so I just know that there is an audience for that,” concludes Digneffe.

Tickets for Live is Live are available from 69 euros and are on sale from Saturday 11 December at 10 am via www.liveislive.be.
