The National Center for Geophysics affiliated to the National Council for Scientific Research stated, in a statement, that an earthquake was recorded at 7:44 local time, on the evening of Monday, February 20, 2023, with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale. It was located on the Turkish coast, 200 km north of the city. Lebanon and the citizens felt it.
And the statement continued: “The Center of Geophysics is important to clarify that it is normal for aftershocks to occur after this tremor, and citizens can feel some of them, but there is no danger of tsunami waves in Lebanon, according to the early warning system of tsunamis in the Mediterranean.”
