The National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee today held a subcommittee to consider the Employment and Labor Act and attempted to approve an amendment to the Labor Standards Act focused on the “additional overtime system of 8 hours” and an amendment to the law on trade unions called the ‘Yellow Envelope Act’, but it was rejected only after confirming the differences between the government and opposition parties.

The ‘Yellow Envelope Act’ is a bill limiting damages to management for losses caused by union strikes, and is requested by the Justice Party and the Democratic Party.

On the other hand, the ‘8 hours of additional overtime’, which allows companies with fewer than 30 employees to work 8 hours more than the 52 hours per week, is about to expire at the end of this year, and the government and the party the government argues that the sunset should be extended.

At the Employment and Labor Law Review Subcommittee today, Representative Lim Ja-ja said, “There has not been sufficient consultation among the secretaries on the Labor Standards Law and the Union Law,” and “I am very sorry for the party that pushed the agenda forward towards the end of the year.” he pointed out.

On the other hand, Lee Su-jin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, “I’m sorry for the double standard of only dealing with what I need in relation to the bill.”

In the process, Rep. Lim raised his voice, saying, “Don’t talk thoughtless, just tell the truth,” and Rep. Lee retorted, “Telling you not to put it in a meeting just because you don’t like it is violence in ‘National Assembly.’ Even done.

In the midst of this, the Justice Party held a picket line before the meeting, stressing that ‘Yellow Envelope Act legislation should not be further delayed’ and on ‘postponing the 8-hour overtime system’, “to create a bill that encourages death by overwork.” he objected.
