The National Assembly rejected the proposal for a party subsidy of BGN 1 per vote

Parliament rejected at first reading the proposal for a lev party subsidy for the vote received. This happened after a re-vote, in which 76 deputies were “for”, 86 – “against” / mainly BSP, MRF and “Democratic Bulgaria” /, and six abstained.

Thus, the subsidy remains at BGN 8 per actual vote.

The proposal for an amendment to the Law on Political Parties, discussed for nearly five hours in the plenary hall, is of “There is such a people”. It was argued with the results of the 2016 referendum.

Initially, the draft was adopted with 93 votes in favor, 84 against and three abstentions. However, it was rejected after a re-vote.

The petitioner Iva Miteva / “There are such people” / pointed out that a thorough revision of the model of financing of political parties is needed. “The rules related to the control of the spending of funds by the parties must be reconsidered. The savings from the reduction of the budget subsidy will be about BGN 21 million a year, they can be used for Bulgarian citizens, everything else is mimicry,” stressed Miteva.
