With 95 votes in favor and 24 abstentions, the Plenary of the National Assembly has censored Fernando Santos Alviteformer Minister of Energy, on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 30 after declaring it one of the main people responsible for the energy crisis that Ecuador is going through.
The votes in favor came from Christian Social Partythe Citizen revolution y ADN, the governing party. The independent assembly members and a fraction of Build.
The legislators’ interventions revolved around the former official’s lack of management and decisions. In the same way, there was talk of the disregard that was made in the government of the former president Guillermo Lasso to the warnings of Pricingwhich caused the blackouts.
Caesar Umajingafrom the ruling party, which described the former minister as “incompetent” and blamed him for not having acted in a proactive manner to avoid the blackouts and not having done much when they occurred.
For her part, the assembly member Pamela Aguirre accused the questioner, Nicole Saca. According to what he said, he did not provide a single piece of evidence in the evidence-taking phase and that it had to be the commission that obtained it in order to have the basis for the prosecution.
Blackouts
Scheduled blackouts began in Ecuador in mid-April, when the Government announced rationing periods of up to 13 hours in some places, with an average of eight hours nationwide in different cities and areas depending on consumption factors.
Rationing has been reduced and currently blackouts are two hours on average.
Last week, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Roberto Luque, explained that each hour of electricity rationing caused losses of about 12 million dollars, which with an average of six hours of rationing per day the indicator grew to 72 million per day.
