JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said, the Covid-19 vaccine made by Bio Farma will soon be launched to the public. Even President Joko Widodo has given a name to the vaccine made by this state-owned pharmaceutical company.

“The name of the vaccine has been given by the President, but I can’t answer yet. Because this is related to copyright and other things, so this must be checked first,” said Erick in Jakarta, Wednesday (3/8/2022).

According to Erick, his party is currently still waiting for an Emergency Use Permit or Emergency Use Authorization (UAE) this Covid-19 vaccine.

“We are waiting, he said the EUA will be given next week or two weeks,” said Erick

According to him, currently Indonesia is still importing Covid-19 vaccines, both those given by other countries, and those purchased by Indonesia. However, he said, Indonesia cannot continue to depend on other countries.

“When we talk about other pandemics, we don’t know. That’s why at that time we pushed for SOE vaccines,” he said.

Erick explained that this vaccine policy will be discussed by the government and there will be big rules regarding the price, whether it’s free or paid. However, he emphasized that the vaccine is a standalone vaccine.

“Whether it’s free or paid, I can’t say ahead of time. What is certain is that this vaccine is a vaccine that can be used independently, it does not continue to be imported,” he said.

Previously, the President Director of Bio Farma, Honesti Basyir said, currently Bio Farma has registered the results of the phase 3 clinical trial as a series of processes to obtain a distribution permit from the POM Agency.

Honesti said, Bio Farma has also completed an audit of the Covid-19 Vaccine by LPPOM MUI and it is planned that in the near future it will be certified for the halal aspect. If all goes according to plan, Bio Farma’s Covid-19 vaccine will launch on 17 August.

“The President has prepared a special name for the BUMN Covid-19 Vaccine and Bio Farma is in the process of registering the name with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, hopefully on August 17, 2022, Indonesia will have a vaccine made in Indonesia, an offering for Indonesia to break the Covid-19 chain. 19,” Honesti said, Tuesday (2/8/2022).
