We are probably facing one of the best film adaptations of a novel ever made. Talk about The name of the rose is to refer to an authentic jewel of the seventh art. The adaptation of the famous work by Umberto Eco saw the light in 1986, becoming an instant classic.
XIV century. Fray Guillermo de Baskerville (Sean Connery), a Franciscan monk and former inquisitor, and his inseparable disciple, the novice Adso de Melk (Christian Slater), visit a Benedictine abbey, located in northern Italy, to clarify the death of the young miniaturist Adelmo from Otranto. During his stay, other monks mysteriously disappear and are later found dead.
Research is always rewarding. The name of the rose. Not surprisingly, the company Sean Connery and of a very young Christian Slater well worth the trip. This is a mystery and the rest is nonsense. To top it off, the atmosphere of the film and the staging are the icing on the cake to savor the sublime film. Available in Netflix.
