UEFA has announced the names of the referees who will be present on the third day of the Champions League.
The referee for the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund is now known. The third leg of the new edition of the Champions League will be a repeat of the last final at Wembley.
The match, which will take place this Tuesday, October 22 at 9:00 pm, will be refereed by the Romanian international referee Istvan Kovacs. At the age of 40, he is one of the most prestigious in Europe and is part of the UEFA ELITE group. It has been international since 2010.
This will be his first game in the Champions League this season. In the competition, he managed games such as the second final of PSG’s 1-4 victory over Barcelona. Or again, in the round of 16, he scored Inter Milan’s narrow victory over Atlético de Madrid (1-0).

His third time with Real
The Romanian was the fourth referee in the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan in the 2022-2023 season. He was then selected for the Nations League semi-final in which Spain did not participate.
This is the third time he has managed Real Madrid in Europe with a record of one win and one loss. The last time was in the 2-5 defeat that the Merengues took against Liverpool in the first leg of round 16 of the 2022-2023 season. The first goes back to the semi-final first leg of the 2021-2022 season, where Real lost 4-3 against Manchester City at the Etihad.
