Some people are consumed by the myth that eating eggs can make it cholesterol tall. As a result, they often avoid intake counts for fear of soaring cholesterol levels.

The question is, is it true that eating eggs can increase cholesterol levels?

Basically, the human body still needs cholesterol. The last name is a structural molecule that is important for every cell membrane.

Not only that, cholesterol is also used to make steroid hormones such as testosterone, estrogen, and cortisol.

“Cholesterol plays a very important function in the body,” said nutritionist Inge Permadhi in an interview with CNNIndonesia.comsome time ago.

But indeed, in excess levels, cholesterol can trigger a number of health problems. This is what makes some people afraid or reluctant to eat eggs.

The myth that eating eggs can cause high cholesterol actually cannot be considered true or false. Some studies even still show results that differ from each other.

Collect HealthlineDespite this, there are still divergent findings about how eggs affect cholesterol and the risk of heart disease on a broader scale.

Several studies have found that eating eggs does not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, including high cholesterol. Another study also found that eating 6-12 eggs per week did not negatively affect total cholesterol levels in people with diabetes.

It seems that more research is needed to confirm the relationship between egg intake and blood cholesterol levels.

Eggs themselves do contain quite dominant levels of cholesterol, especially in the yolk.

Inge said, one egg yolk usually contains about 200 mg/dL of cholesterol. Meanwhile, the daily cholesterol intake limit for each individual can be different.

People with hypercholesterolemia need to limit their intake of cholesterol, such as eggs, to less than 200 mg/dL.

Meanwhile, in people with normal levels, the recommended daily cholesterol intake is no more than 300 mg/dL.

Thus, actually consuming one egg per day can be considered safe. It’s just that with a note, there is no intake of cholesterol from other sources in the same day.

For example, on the same day you eat one egg along with red meat.

“If he has consumed other sources of cholesterol such as meat, fat, then chicken skin which definitely contains cholesterol, that means [asupan kolesterolnya] so it’s more than 200 mg/dL,” explained Inge.

Thus the explanation about egg intake and cholesterol. The myth that eating eggs causes high cholesterol cannot be considered true or false.
