The Mystery of the Tilt of the Earth’s Core Under the Indonesian Sea Revealed

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A study reports that the Earth’s core beneath Indonesia seems to have tilted. This happens because the dense iron core in the middle of the Earth grows faster under the Banda Sea.

In addition, the Earth’s core beneath Indonesia also loses heat faster than other regions such as Brazil. That way, it makes the cooling process faster because of the crystallization of the iron that makes up the core.

The incident has occurred since 500 years ago. Unfortunately, the reason for the rapid cooling process is not yet known.

“The only way we can explain is that one side is growing faster than the other,” said study lead author Daniel Frost, a seismologist at the University of California, Berkeley.

This research was conducted by seismologists at the University of California, Berkeley, United States (US). The analysis came to light when researchers studied seismic waves.

Seismic waves are underground vibrations from an earthquake and pass through a solid iron core. The Earth’s core is 3,000 kilometers below the Earth’s surface and is spherical in shape and contains iron and nickel.

While at the top of the core is the deep mantle with a depth from 300 to 2,890 km below the Earth’s surface. The outer mantle at 10-300 km below the Earth’s surface. Finally, the outermost layer is the earth’s crust.

The core of the Earth that loses heat makes scientists have a new conclusion about why the crystallization of iron tends to be in the West, namely the Bandang Sea compared to the East.

The researchers said there was asymmetrical growth, 60% higher to the west side. They also add that growth does not mean unbalance other risks.

But there is still one other mystery that has not been revealed. “The question is, does this change the strength of the magnetic field?” said Frost.
