Sun bears, the world’s smallest bear species, are usually about the size of a large dog, according to the zoo’s explanation. They are an endangered species native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia.
In the video, the sun bear can be seen standing tall on the edge of its enclosure, holding its paws to its sides, as if watching the zoo visitors itself.
People on social networks have questioned how the bear could stand so straight on slender legs, as well as its appearance – as if the skin that gathers around the hips and resembles an ill-fitting bear costume.
In a post written from the sun bear’s perspective, the Hangzhou Zoo stated, “Some people think that I am standing as a human… It seems that you do not know me very well. When it comes to bears, the first thing that comes to mind is a huge figure and amazing strength… But not all bears are the size of a hippopotamus and embody danger.”
The Hangzhou Zoo record indicates that the bears are about 1.3 meters tall when standing on their hind legs, about half the size of grizzly bears native to North America.
