Human activity around the world came to a halt when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. This happened due to the spread of disease so quickly that a regional quarantine had to be implemented.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that around 3 million people died in 2020 as a result of the virus. Scientists are still debating the origin of the virus.
The most common and popular theory is that the virus originated from a market in Wuhan, China. There is also another theory which says that the virus originated from a laboratory leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and was deliberately spread by other countries.

Recently, scientists believe that they have begun to solve the mystery of the origin of the COVID-19 virus. Through genetic analysis, they identified a list of wild animals at Wuhan’s Huanan seafood market as the most likely source of the virus.
Even though bats have been said to be the original carriers of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, researchers believe that it is more likely that the spread occurred because infected wild animals were brought to market, cause a revolution.
They last reviewed data on 800 samples collected at the market by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention starting on January 1, 2020. They also analyzed the viral genomes of the most recent COVID-19 cases. early
“We analyzed this data to determine which species were present and where they were found in the market, especially in relation to where SARS-CoV-2 was found,” said Ed Holmes from the University of Sydney team, who was announced by the Mirror, on Tuesday. (24/9/2024).
From this study, the research team found signs of various wild animals traded in the market that had the potential to be intermediate hosts for the virus, including palm civets, bamboo rats and raccoon dogs. .
