The man on the album cover Led Zeppelin IV turns out to be a nineteenth-century thatcher. It was a mystery for half a century who the man on the cover of the album by the British band Led Zeppelin was.
Brian Edwards, a researcher at the University of the West of England, found the original photo while looking through a photo album for a study. “I immediately recognized the man with the sticks. He is often called the stick man,” Edwards said in a broadcast of BBC Radio Wiltshire.
The man in the photo was called Lot Long and died in 1893. Edwards is a big fan of Led Zeppelin, so the discovery was “quite a revelation”. The Wiltshire Museum now owns the photo and plans to exhibit it next year.
Led Zeppelin IV is the rock band’s fourth album. Since its release in 1971, it has sold more than 37 million copies worldwide. The big hit Stairway to Heaven is also on this album.
