The mystery behind the case deadly mushroom which is shocking Australia after killing three people began to unfold. The amateur chef who is a suspect in this case admits to accidentally stuffing it poisonous mushrooms into the beef Wellington dishes consumed by the dead.

As reported AFP, Monday (14/8/2023), another victim who works as a priest was reportedly still critical and fighting for his life at a local hospital. The case sparked rumors that circulated in tight-knit communities in rural areas of Australia.

Local police believe the dish was contaminated with a type of poisonous mushroomdeath cap‘, which grows freely in the foothills surrounding Lengoatha — a small town about two hours’ drive to the southeast Melbourne.

The dish was cooked by Erin Patterson, an editor of the community newsletter who is also the daughter-in-law of two of the victims. Patterson has been named a suspect because he appeared healthy even though four of his guests who consumed his homemade dishes fell seriously ill, leading to three deaths.

Patterson prepared a beef Wellington dish for his in-laws, Don and Gail Patterson, at a family lunch at his home last Saturday (29/7). She married Simon, Don and Gail’s son, but the couple lived apart for a time.

Two other people, Ian Wilkinson who is a godfather and his wife Heather, were also present at the lunch together.

The investigation has sparked intense speculation, with police trying to separate carelessly cooked dishes and the alleged crimes in the case.
