Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch, told South China Morning Post, Tuesday (19/10/2021), confirmed that Nur Sajat’s asylum application had been received. However, he refused to name the country of asylum.
“He is now safe, but it is up to him to reveal where he is,” Roberston said.
On Monday, Nur Sajat revealed on Instagram that she was in Sydney, Australia. He admitted that he chose Australia as his country of residence because he accepted it.
“What more could we want? We want freedom. So, human rights here, is very important. They (Australia) put human rights very seriously. I do not want anything. I just want human rights.”
The Australian government has not commented on whether it was the party that granted asylum to the fugitive Malaysian troops.
“Please respect me as a human. That’s all,” said Nur Sajat.
