The family name of the actress’s father was “lost” in Kharkov.
Lyudmila Gurchenko was one of the most outstanding actresses of her time. She was a style icon, attracted attention at any event, and films with her participation were doomed to success. On her mother’s side, the fragile beauty was related to the noble nobles, but the father of the future star was from ordinary people.
Moreover, the man was born under a different name. Initially, Mark Gavrilovich was called Gurchenkov. His last name was “cut off” at the passport office in Kharkov. When the man received his first documents, he was recorded as Mark Gurchenko. The reason for the error is still unknown.
According to one version, he simply introduced himself vaguely; according to another, an employee of the institution wrote down his last name in a form more familiar to her. In Ukraine, most surnames end in -ko. One way or another, the actress’s name should have been Lyudmila Gurchenkova, but whether she could have reached such heights under a different name remains a mystery.
