CROCS ON THE ESCAPE: Here, Marie shows the parents how the crocs disappeared, after she was reunited with the shoes. Photo: Private
Marie lost one croc when she was swimming at her grandmother’s and grandfather’s cottage in Åros. Eleven days later they appeared – at the grandmother’s and grandfather’s cabin 1.2 miles away as the crow flies.

It was Røyken and Hurum’s Avis who first wrote about the matter.
Since Marie loves swimming, it is natural to own a pair of pink crocs with matching unicorn decorations, for water play and bathing.
The five-year-old and the rest of the family – Hedda (3), Carl Christian (1), and parents Julie and Carl Phillip – were on holiday with their grandmother and grandfather in Åros in the Oslofjord, when she lost one of her crocs on the beach.
This summer, they were first going to visit dad Carl Phillip’s parents, before the trip went to the mountains. After a few days in the highlands, they were going back to the Oslofjord, and visit their grandmother and grandfather on Bjerkøya.
After they had packed up their belongings from Åros, the family discovered that one croc of the household’s eldest child was missing. They looked at the water’s edge by the cabin, since Marie said she had lost it there, but to no avail.
– “Yes, yes, then it’s probably lost”, we think, says mother Julie.
FAMILY HOLIDAY IN THE OSLOFJORD: The family of five has spent the holiday both with grandma and grandpa in Åros and with grandma and grandpa on Bjerkøya. The Crocsen sailed its own sea between the two places. Photo: Private
– My shoe sailed
Marie is fond of the pink shoes with unicorns, but had to do without when they went on a mountain trip.
After a few days in the mountains, the family made the trip to Bjerkøya, where the grandmother and grandfather have a cabin.
– We had forgotten the whole thing about the croc, but there on the beach at the southern tip of Bjerkøya, there it was. We recognized it straight away because of the unicorn, says Julie.
– My shoe sailed completely away from my grandmother and grandfather’s cabin to my grandmother and grandfather’s cabin. It’s a bit strange, but also very fun, says Marie happily to VG after the reunion with the bathing shoe.
According to Julie, there are 1.2 miles as the crow flies between the two cabins, where the croc had had its voyage.
SHOCKING DISCOVERY: After eleven days “on the run”, one croc reappeared. – Dad’s reaction was “you big alpaca”, Marie tells VG. Photo: Private
– Quite incredible
The shoes had therefore been gone for eleven days and lived their own life in the Oslofjord, before the rightful owner was reunited with the crocs.
– The distance can also be longer, depending on the route. If I had driven a boat at a speed of 20 knots, it would have taken me approximately 25 minutes from Åros to Bjerkøya, says Carl Philip.
The family of five vacations in two places in the Oslofjord, and this summer it turned out that a good portion of luck ensured that Marie got the missing croc back.
– It is quite incredible that we found it again, and what is special is that the shoe was lost at Carl Philip’s parents’ cabin, and turned up at my parents’ cabin, says Julie.
Now Marie can once again walk in what is a proper pair of Crocs:
– I was happy when they were found, and now I can walk with them for the rest of the summer!
