A toilet worth over NOK 65 million was stolen from the childhood home of Winston Churchill in 2019. Four men have now been charged.

The well-functioning toilet in 18 carat gold has, according to Sky News a value of 4.8 million pounds – which corresponds to almost NOK 65.6 million.

In September 2019, it was stolen from Blenheim Palace in southern England. It has since disappeared without a trace.

Now four men in their 30s have been charged in the case, writes Reuters. A total of six men and one woman have been arrested, but only the four men must appear in court on 28 November.

The doe was part of an exhibition, and was designed by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan.

According to the police, the burglars are said to have broken into the castle early in the morning with two vehicles, just days after it was installed.

The doe was connected to the sewer in the building and the theft therefore caused significant damage and water leakage.

The golden doe has previously been exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Then guests could use the toilet while security guards looked after them. At Blenheim Palace, guests could take the liberty of using the toilet within a three-minute rule.

Blenheim Palace, which is the childhood home of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, is government-owned and part of the World Heritage Site.

The current whereabouts of the golden doe is still a mystery.
