The death of Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny in the IK-3 special regime penal colony in the village of Harp has become a major topic of discussion for residents of Salekhard, the capital of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russian opposition newspaper Novaya Gazeta Evropa reports.
“Salehard is not such a big city, with about 50,000 inhabitants. And that is why those who live here know each other and make many acquaintances. That is why it is very difficult to keep something a secret from the locals here. Especially when it comes to a global event, such as the death of a world-class politician,” Dmitry, a native of Salekhard, told the publication.
According to a New Europe source, Navalny’s body was first taken to Labitnangi, but on the evening of February 16, it was transferred to the Salekhard Regional Hospital on Mira Street.
“Normally, the bodies of those who died in colonies are taken directly to the medical examiner’s office on Glazkova Street, but for some reason his body was taken to the clinic,” said an ambulance official in Salekhard, whose building is 500 meters from the hospital. .
“They took me to the morgue, they let me in and then two policemen stood at the door,” he added.
The officer explained that everyone wanted to know what was going on and why the officers were acting like they were hiding something.
It quickly became clear that they brought the body of a politician and that the death was of a “non-criminal nature”, that is, no shots were fired. And then the news spread that local pathologists were prohibited from performing autopsies, Novaya Gazeta reported.
“This is where opinions differ for the first time,” the EMS official said.
Some said that orders came from Moscow to wait for the capital’s specialists, while others claimed that the doctors themselves refused to perform an autopsy. This is a political issue and it is not clear how it will develop. And if you do an autopsy and a direct order comes to make changes to the result, then you can’t get away with it. And if no autopsy was done… well, they won’t actually ask you. Also, now it’s winter, bodies can simply be stored in the corridor for weeks, a source told the publication.
The ambulance source said that bruises were found on Navalny’s body, which he received during his lifetime. But not from a beating, but as a result of other actions.
“As an Ambulance worker with quite a lot of experience, I can say that such injuries, as described by those who saw them, appear from seizures,” said the medic, who wished to remain anonymous.
“The man was convulsing, they tried to restrain him, but the convulsions can be very strong, so you get bruises. They also said that he also had a bruise on his chest. But such appears in connection with cardiac massage. That is, they still tried to resuscitate him and he died most likely from a cardiac arrest”, adds a source of the publication.
