The president stressed that both the United States and China need to responsibly manage competition in their relationship and maintain open channels of communication. He emphasized that the United States and China must jointly respond to global challenges.

President Biden expressed condolences on the death of former Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang.

The website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China stated: Biden sent greetings to President Xi Jinping, elaborated on the position of attaching importance to relations with China, and expressed that the United States is willing to maintain communication with China and jointly respond to global challenges.

Zhao Lanjian, a former media person in mainland China, posted on the overseas social media X (formerly Twitter) platform that Wang Yi’s actions may cause big trouble for himself. He said: Biden was originally concerned about the deceased and expressed condolences. Wang Yi messed around and even published something that Biden had not said and forwarded it to Xi Jinping, the great living person.

Some other netizens also agreed with the unlucky statement. “You are grabbing greetings from a dead person, do you want to go down there yourself?” However, some people think that this is “a high-level gangster from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

U.S. Secretary of State Blinken and U.S. White House Security Advisor Sullivan also expressed condolences for Li Keqiang’s death when they met with Wang Yi respectively. However, the press release issued by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs made no mention of this.
