- New trophies and a new name for each award: Jordan, Olajuwon and Wilt Chamberlain among the legends awarded
The NBA yesterday presented the awards for the new season which will be presented at the end of the 2022-23 regular season. A change of names and trophies that intends to honor various legends of the league throughout its history, as explained by the NBA commissioner himself, Adam Silver: “Our new trophy collection honors some of the greatest and most impactful players in NBA history.”.
The most important, transcendental and media change was that of mvp it’s of the season, renamed the Michel Jordan Trophyand which pays tribute to the best player of all time with a trophy full of symbols related to 23:

But it’s not just the one for the best player of the season that changes its name (and physical trophy), given that Silver has presented no less than five innovations compared to the awards assigned so far. The other four changes are as follows:

Defensive Player of the Year (formerly DPOY)will be renamed Hakeem Olajuwon Trophy.

Rookie of the Year (ROY): Wilt Chamberlain Trophy

Most Improved Player (MIP): George Mikan Trophy

Best sixth man: John Havlicek Trophy
In addition, the creation of two more awards was announced, with two tributes to two other historic former NBA players:

Clutch Player of the Yearwhich will be the Jerry West Trophy.

is that of Best regular season record: Maurice Podoloff Trophy.
