On Saturday the curtain of the 48th Villacañas Amateur Theater Festival opened, with a presentation act in which the Councilor for Culture, Ana Avilés, began with a memory of the recently deceased Eloy Román, founding member of the Festival, history of theater in Villacañas and to whom this year the Villacañero contest is dedicated.
After reviewing the program prepared by the Organizing Committee, which he thanked for the work it is doing, he focused his words on the godmother of this edition of the Festival, Angeli Ciudad Real. A woman who entered the world of theater at the hands of her sister Mariví in the Candilejas group. At the age of 17, she played her first leading role and, since then, her roles have been constant, first in Candilejas and the last ones by the group La Quintería, which this year returns to the tables of the Villacañero theater.
Angeli recalled her life in the local theater world and encouraged the young people not to let Villacañas run out of a theater group. She did all of this excited and thanking the City Council and the Festival Organizing Commission for this appointment as Festival sponsor.
After the presentation act it was the turn of the theater. It was the group Musicales 3C from Tres Cantos (Madrid), which opened the curtain of the Villacañero Festival with “Shala Kabula. The musical”. After several cancellations due to COVID, the people from Madrid were able to perform at the Miguel de Cervantes in front of an audience that enjoyed their staging and rewarded the group with a very long final ovation.
The theater registered a good entry for this first work of a Festival that will resume on Friday with Carpe Diem Teatro, by Tomelloso, and its production “Lady Violet”. On Saturday the 11th it will be the turn of the local group “La Quintería”, which returns to the Miguel de Cervantes stage with the play “Cuentos luneros”.
