Synopsis
Little Rob J. Cole’s life changes the day he is orphaned and discovers he has an unusual gift in his hands: he can predict death. Adopted as an apprentice to a barber surgeon, Rob travels around England discovering life, discipline and the curiosity to learn. At nineteen, a Jewish doctor tells him about distant Persia, where there is a medical school directed by the best doctor of the time: Avicenna.
Rob goes on an adventure, willing to travel halfway around the world to become a doctor. During a caravan trip through the desert, he meets Mary, a Scottish girl who will remind him of her origins and mark her plans for the future.
Nothing will be easy for Rob in Isfahan, neither by posing as a Jew in order to study nor his relationship with the Shah, who takes a liking to his friendship. He soon becomes an outstanding student of Avicenna, but a plague, war and a despotic king will test Rob’s life. Only friendship, vocation and love will push him to survive.
