Silences don’t last forever. After months in which live music was relegated to the background because of the pandemic that silenced everything, many others arrived in which it has been awakening although always restrained between seats. Now, she finally seems determined to pick up the chairs and stand up. This is how the Extremaduran scene has wanted to demonstrate it, which wants to record that it is still there and that it intends to continue fighting.
And since there is no fourth without fifth and as silences do not last forever, The Music Market, already known in the trade as MUM, held a new edition of meeting for the sector in Extremadura although he did it with a change of scenery. Instead of Villafranca de los Barros, a town where all previous meetings have been held, Mérida was the city chosen to inaugurate a new stage, also on a symbolic level.
For four days, the capital of Extremadura brought together more than a hundred professionals from the scene, including bands, all local, journalists and those responsible for promoters and programming from all over the country. Although the operations center was located in the Palacio de Congresos, where the meetings took place, from Thursday to Sunday, the MUM distributed its showcases in four stages, the most spectacular being the one that was installed in front of the Los Milagros aqueduct, which half Night and in the heat of Gecko Turner live, later Luis Pastor, gave a deposit of a new normal that well resembles the one that existed before the pandemic crossed. Both this and the one that was installed in the imposing temple of Diana and that of the Plaza de la Constitución, were opened to the public, who welcomed the music sessions in the street.
In this edition, Fônal and Bambikina from Cáceres, Puerto Hurraco from Mérida, Subterráneos from Badajoz or the new stage of Kuqui Alegre, who presented his collaboration with La Bien Querida and made his grandfather Ernesto dance, who at 85 years old gave one of the most endearing moments, they presented their brand. Regardless of balance sheets, in statements to this newspaper, the head of the Association of Cultural Managers and Managers (Agcex), stressed that only the celebration of the MUM is “a success”. “The fact of meeting is already a joy” he pointed out while he defended the conference as a “showcase” to serve as a loudspeaker for a scene that is – again – on its feet.
