The music industry has been rocked by artificial intelligence programs

Programs using artificial intelligence are shaking up the music industry by recreating the voices of famous artists, Agence France-Presse reported, citing BTA on Friday.

The voice of Frank Sinatra, who died in 1998, is part of a cover version of Coolio’s song “Gangsta’s Paradise”.

“Artificial intelligence is everywhere,” Alexandre Lache of France’s national record union told AFP. “The applications are developing, regulations are being discussed at the European level, as well as in the USA. The most important thing is respect for the artist and for the creative process,” he added.

“Artificial intelligence is a demon,” Californian rapper Ice Cube said on a podcast. “This is the last straw,” Canadian rapper Drake complained on social media.

The song “Heart on My Sleeve”, created by an artificial intelligence imitating the voices of Drake and singer The Weeknd, collected more than 10 million views on TikTok in a few hours.

Intellectual property is controversial because copyright protects the expression of an idea. Voice is not exactly an idea, Andres Guadamus, a lawyer and intellectual property expert at the University of Sussex, told AFP earlier.

A replica of the group “Oasis” – “AIsis” appeared, with a whole new album. “I heard one track, it sounds good,” commented Liam Gallagher, lead singer of the band, which broke up in 2009. Paul McCartney called the use of artificial intelligence in music “a very interesting phenomenon.”

One has already been used to record an unreleased Beatles song to include John Lennon’s voice while strictly respecting copyright.

In April, Universal Music demanded that platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music block access to the company’s catalog to users who wished to use the songs in artificial intelligence.
