The Municipality of al-Qaa: Protecting Border Lands and Preventing Violations

The head of the municipality of al-Qaa, lawyer Bashir Matar, affirmed that al-Qaa “will not give up its right to access all of its border lands under any circumstances and protect it from nipping and seizure and preventing works of any kind,” warning “the Lebanese and Syrians present in the al-Qaa plain not to persist in attacks of any kind.” It was, and they will be on the lookout for them.”

And he said, in a statement: “Yesterday, a military force from the Syrian army entered Lebanese territory, estate No. 89 of the Baayoun real estate area, owned by the municipality of Al-Qaa, to intimidate members of the municipality and security forces to prevent them from carrying out their duty to suppress violations, as the Syrian force worked in the interest of some Lebanese.” Those who dig an artesian well on the border within the aforementioned property, to seize the land and plant it with trees, in order to facilitate smuggling operations of all kinds.

He continued, “The municipality will be with the army and security forces to enforce the law and prevent violations and breach of borders, as happened today, when elements from the al-Qaa police station filled the well despite the attempts of the Syrian army to intervene, which is rejected within our borders.”

Matar demanded, “The competent judiciary to be strict against the aggressors and violators, in order to preserve rights and civil peace, and calls for respecting borders to the maximum extent, and calls for addressing these irresponsible behaviors, which you wish to be individual and motivated by material benefit only.”
