The Municipality of San Vicente del Raspeig has decided to extend the contract for the management, maintenance and breakdown repair services of the bicycle loan system for public use (BICISANVI) by one year due to the success that the service has had in the municipality . Likewise, the Department of the Environment inaugurated two new facilities in the Faculty of Education of the UA and at the entrance to the Lo Torrent park and increased the number of bicycle parking spaces corresponding to the Plaza Juan Pablo II station.
In this way, the local authority will give the go-ahead for a one-year extension of the contract, from June 2023 to June 2024, for a total amount of 49,511 euros. As for the new locations, the constant increase in the number of users has motivated both establishments, given that the new station of the Faculty of Education has 20 berths and another in Parque Lo Torrent, with 16.
Both the location of the Faculty of Education and the Lo Torrent park are equipped with a continuous galvanized steel bike rack with 20 and 16 anchorages, respectively, with relative electromechanical padlock systems that allow the immobilization of the bicycles, as well as the control, identification and management of bicycles. As well as a Multimedia Information Point (PIM) which allows the user to interact with the use of the bicycles, as well as that of the system operators and the electronics necessary to connect each workstation or position of the rack with its multimedia information point.
For its part, the extension of the Plaza de Juan Pablo II has a continuous galvanized steel bicycle rack with 4 anchors, with electromechanical padlock systems that allow the immobilization of the bicycles, as well as electronic control, identification and management of bicycles. .
Finally, 30 bicycles compatible with the currently installed Integral Control System were supplied this year and another 10 which the contractor included as an improvement to the contract. The points are at the University of Alicante, Faculty of Education, Plaza Juan Pablo II, the new Town Hall, the Municipal Sports Body, the Municipal Library, the suburban train stop, the Health Center II, the Lo Torrent park and the San Vicente Outlet Mall Park.
This 2022 the service recorded 181 new registrations, which brings the total number of new users to 654 since the service was awarded in June 2021. Similarly, 14,620 bicycle loans were registered during this year at existing outlets . Currently the municipality has ten active points after the unification of the latter two recently inaugurated.
The Councilor for the Environment, David Navarro, remarked that the expansion of the structures, in particular that of the AU, is due to the “demand” of the university population to be able to use the service and assessed the “success” of this service audience that “helps promote the sustainable development of Saint Vincent”.
Along the same lines, the councilor for procurement, Guillermo García, stressed that “the supply of these bicycles is necessary as it will allow the municipality to provide more infrastructure to improve the service and connect different points of the municipality in a sustainable way, now especially in a busy area like UA and Lo Torrent Park”.
