The decision fell during the last city council. The town hall of Montauban has not renewed the subsidies to the Montauban Boxe Anglaise club and is asking it to leave the Jacques Chirac sports complex. In question: suspicions of radicalization within the association.
The announcement fell during the last city council. The Montauban Boxe Anglaise club will no longer benefit from the support of the municipality.
For 6 months, the association had been in the sights of the municipal exchange cell on radicalization, the CMER.
In a press release, sent this Tuesday, May 31, Gerard Cathala, deputy mayor, in charge of the files of this cell explains that “concordant and worrying elements show a manifest failure of the MBA association to respect its obligations”.
Certain behaviors did not respect the conditions of use of the municipal sports hall: individual access cards were exchanged and clothing was not necessarily adapted.
But there is worse : “These behaviors go against the very principle of secularism and the internal regulations, which prohibit any political, ideological and religious consideration within the sports facilities of the city of Montauban. specified this same elected to the municipal council.
Alerted by parents, the town hall realized that the club was engaged in proselytizing in favor of the Muslim religion. She forbade young girls to wear shorts and even forced some to keep the veil on the ring.
So many worrying elements that prompted Brigitte Barèges, the mayor of Montauban to decide: the subsidy of 26,546 euros and access to the municipal gymnasium were withdrawn from her.
The Montauban Boxe Anglaise association, which has 200 members, has not reacted to date.
She simply warned the athletes on her Facebook page announcing that the courses were ending this Wednesday, June 1, following the decision of the municipal council.
For its part, the city of Montauban plans to create a new boxing club by the start of the next school year.
