The Municipal Theater of Piacenza reopens to the public with Plácido Domingo
On Sunday May 16, the Municipal Theater of Piacenza reopens its doors to the public with Plácido Domingo as the featured host. Domingo will conduct the Toscanini Philharmonic and the Piacenza Muncipale Theater Choir at the Requiem Mass by Giuseppe Verdi. The vocal quartet will be made up of María José Siri, Annalisa Stroppa, Antonio Poli and Michele Pertusi.
Domingo returns to Piacenza almost half a century after his debut at the Municipal Theater (it was in 1972 with Lucia of Lammermoor). Initially scheduled in November of last year, the concert with the Requiem Mass It was postponed at the time due to the illness of the Spanish musician, who was forced to cancel his participation in the Belisarius of the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo.
In addition to being open to the public, the event will be broadcast live (6pm) on streaming and for free through OperaStreaming. Before the interpretation of the Requiem Verdiano, a large screen will be placed behind soloists, orchestra and choir where images will be projected that will recall places and victims of the pandemic in Piacenza, one of the Italian cities hardest hit by the first wave of Covid-19.
