Jonava district municipality presents its activity report to the residents, which covers all four years of the last term of office. The report contains the most important projects implemented in the Jonava district and works performed during 2019-2022.
“The municipal council of the Jonava district, which started working four years ago, and I, your elected mayor, will soon finish this term. The four years were full of challenges and new tests, but at the same time – new opportunities, which we tried to make the most of – says district mayor Mindaugas Sinkevičius in the introduction to the publication. – I think that Jonava has demonstrated the ability to perfectly cope with all challenges, and in many cases we have become an example for our neighbors.”
In the first year of operation, the district council approved a very clear vision of the future of Jonava and undertook the first projects. However, already in 2020 The COVID-19 pandemic that hit the whole world at the beginning of the year and the resulting quarantine disrupted the normal rhythm of life.
Despite large expenses and budget losses, during the pandemic, the municipality found opportunities to improve the infrastructure of Jonava district social service institutions, update inventory, and car parks. A lot of investment is devoted to the renovation of educational institutions.
Through active political work, it was possible to attract much more funds for the state investment program than ever before in the history of Jonava. Therefore, in 2020 was characterized by a special abundance of new infrastructure objects. Construction of the swimming pool has begun.
The pandemic did not prevent the completion of several important projects in the Jonava district, as well as the continuation and start of new works.
A pedestrian-bicycle bridge with an impressive architecture was opened across Žeimių street, and the first electric bus was purchased. Jonava entered the top five municipalities with a well-developed network of bicycle paths.
in 2021 In Jonava, the renovation of the central city stadium has been completed, and the first professionally designed mountain bike park in Lithuania has been opened in Jonanii Valley.
Last year, the municipality paid a lot of attention and investment to the Jonava hospital, which was threatened with a significant reduction in the range of its services. It was not only possible to preserve all the services provided here, but also to achieve a fifteen-year birth record – 418 children were born in the Jonava hospital during the year.
“These four years were also dedicated to strengthening the identity of the people of Iona, refining their identity. We started looking for creative solutions for the Jonava brand, and ended up creating a unique product – the JONAVA app. All this is to strengthen the identification of the residents of our region with their district, and to make them active users of public services,” says Deputy Mayor Birutė Gailienė.
