Samantha Jones is back! Kim Cattrall made her much-anticipated appearance as her favorite Sex and the City character during the Season 2 finale, “And Just Like That…” — and granted the wishes of countless fans.

During the scene at the beginning of this week’s episode, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) gets a call from Samantha, who is in the car. “My flight is three hours late Kerry! I won’t make it on time”she states.
Dressed in a red dress and silver trench coat, complete with a lime green bag and chunky jewelry, Samantha then explains that Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) told her about Carrie’s “Last Supper” party at her old apartment — and Samantha plans to catch a flight from Heathrow Airport to New York to surprise her friend for one night only.
“Well this is your apartment and I have to pay my respects”she insists.
Insisting that Carrie put her on speakerphone, Samantha says goodbye to Carrie’s seat as only the uncharacteristically sexy and confident heroine could.
“Thank you for everything great great apartment” she said.
When Carrie teases her about developing a British accent, Samantha scoffs at the surprise. “Cheers!” she concluded. “And have a nice evening.”
Samantha’s absence was first explained in the series premiere, where it was revealed that the two had drifted apart after Carrie fired Samantha as her publicist and Samantha moved to London. Since then, the ex-girlfriends have been slowly getting closer: texting and getting together for drinks off-screen.

Samantha’s presence has been somewhat understated throughout the second season – although she was seen in episode 8 when Charlotte was looking through old photos – but excitement for her appearance reached fever pitch when the season finale trailer showed Carrie receiving a phone a call from her.
The episode may be short, but it marks an important moment for the series, as well as for Cattrall, who in a May 2022 interview with Variety expressed her feelings about not wanting to be involved in the Sex and the City reboot, in part because she didn’t likes her character’s storyline in the still-unproduced third Sex and the City movie, and the plot of And Just Like That is “mostly like the third movie,” which also includes plots like the death of Carrie’s husband Tuzarya (Chris Knott).
“I also didn’t want to compromise what the series was to me,” she said at the time. “The way forward seemed clear.”

In 2017, Cattrall wrote on Twitter that she had decided a year earlier that she “didn’t want” to star in a third SATC film and had ended the role of Samantha when she expressed displeasure with the script for the third “Sex and the city”. Her decision not to participate led to a public spat with Parker. When “And Just Like That…” creators Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker decided to create a reboot of “Sex and the City”, Cattrall was not asked to reprise the role of Samantha.
“I was never asked to be involved in the reboot”she tells Variety. “I made my feelings clear after the potential third film, so I found out about it like everyone else – from social media.”
But Cattrall’s reluctance to recast her most memorable role may also be due to her personal feelings toward Parker, who she claims “could have been nicer” to her during the Sex and the City production. .
“This is where I poke fun at the Sex and the City people and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker – I think she could have been nicer.” the actress told Piers Morgan in 2017.
She also added that she, Parker, Nixon and Davis “they were never friends” during the same interview.

But Cattrall finally broke her promise to put Samantha in the past when she allegedly received a call from an HBO executive who asked her: “What can we do?” regarding her participation in “And Just Like That”…
One of those requests included bringing back her longtime friend and original Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field, who wasn’t working on Just Like That…

“I just thought, if I’m going to come back, I’m going to come back with this kind of Samantha style,” she told The View in June. “And we did.”
According to Variety, Cattrall filmed the cameo on March 22 in New York. She has made her scene “without seeing or talking to the stars of the series”including Parker, Nixon and Davis, and reportedly did not communicate with King.
