The MRF in Istanbul is campaigning for Gerdjikov

The MRF in Istanbul is openly campaigning for GERB’s candidate, Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov, for president of Sunday’s runoff. This can be seen on the Facebook page of the structure, on which a poster of Gerdjikov with the candidate for vice president – Nevyana Miteva was published. Yesterday, MRF leader Mustafa Karadayi refused to give official support to the candidates for “Dondukov” 1, supported by GERB. Karaday, in his typical style, said that “the supporters of the movement are wise and will make their choice according to the profile of the future president outlined in advance by the MRF – to be a unifier of the nation, to be a face to the world, etc.”

For more than a year, the MRF has been openly at war with the current head of state and a candidate for a second term – Rumen Radev. Before the previous National Assembly was dissolved, Karadayi in a declaration accused Radev of dividing the nation and placing himself above the constitution. “Either he has forgotten himself or he is deliberately promoting the idea of a presidential republic,” the MRF leader accused him.

The MRF has repeatedly clashed with Radev over the work of the caretaker government and in particular the actions of caretaker Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov against buying votes, which the MRF described as “repression” and “intimidation” of his voters. Radev and the cabinet attacked the MRF because of Delyan Peevski, who was sanctioned by the United States under the Magnitsky law for “significant corruption”.

Mustafa Karadayi was also a presidential candidate, ranking third with 11.57% of the vote, and in the parliamentary elections, the MRF surprisingly overtook the BSP and won 13%, or 335,781 votes. More than 90,000 of them came from emigrants to Turkey.
