World Cup fever is everywhere. Even at the Teatro Colón, where the boys of the Children’s Choir stayed exchanging stickers from the album. Cesare Bustamante, the director of the choir, recalls that until a few days ago everyone wondered about Messi’s, the unattainable one. Now that Argentina is in the final, who will play a historic match against France on Sunday, they have prepared a surprise: a song of encouragement, with video and speech included.
A door that opens, the majestic golden chandelier hanging from the ceiling, the red carpet of the Colón and here they are we see them, here they come: they are the boys with the national team shirts humming to growth the song of The fly. “I was born in Argentina, / the land of Diego and Lionel, / of the Malvinas boys / that I will never forget…”, is heard on a beautiful record. “Guys, now we are thrilled again, / I want to win the third, I want to be world champion…”
The proposal came from the Columbus Department. The idea was for the boys to record a song to encourage the national team. These are decisive times and the support of an entire country is present. At first Bustamante was a little surprised. Then, as he himself says, “I thought of the kids, who are going through this stage with joy and passion. Some are boys, it’s the first World Cup they know about ”, he argues.
These days, the choir rehearses The Nutcrackera classic Ivan Vsevolozhsky with music by Tchaikovsky which debuted in 1892. “They loved the idea. I mentioned them just before. From the piano we made the arrangement because each voice sings something different. There wasn’t much time. It was something unusual: it was almost born in common. In forty minutes we already had it. Record time,” says Bustamante, who is also a pianist, director and arranger of various musical genres.
The song is a record for three voices: one sings like the fans, the other two make the music records. “Some melodies are quite difficult,” says Bustamante, who, when everything was ready, decided to make one last arrangement. «It was incredible how the boys immediately seized it», he says, adding that, compared to what they usually try, it is «a totally different way of singing, but there is the same passion: music, which is universal.”
“This children’s choir participates in the opera, and in the opera they play children who play, with angelic voices or sometimes the opposite: capricious children who want to be bought toys. They are very flexible ”, he says and says that making this video, which was shot the day after the recording,“ was a happiness ”. “There was no need to reshoot. We just put a few ideas into practice. It was all very spontaneous. He flowed ”.
The boys of the choir are from 6 to 15 years old. For them, this World Cup is special. Just as at the end of the trial the figurines kept changing, many arrived with the Argentina shirt. “We wanted this to not be like a concert. The idea was that the kids could have fun, cheering the way a soccer team should be cheering,” she says. Cesare Bustamenteand concludes: “I hope that on Sunday we will have a greater joy than we have now”.
