The Qur’an has four important purposes: to explain and prove the Divine Existence and Oneness, Resurrection, Prophethood and worship and Divine justice.
All of his explanations and commands, and his accounts of the history of the earlier peoples, were for establishing these four principles in the minds, hearts and practical lives of those people.
For this purpose, since nature is the realm in which the Names of God are manifested and therefore constitutes a collection of signs of Divine Existence and Oneness, it often refers to the reality of creation and ‘natural’ events and objects, and to humans as, in one. unity. respect, part of nature, and, in other cases, the fruit and example of the tree of creation as a whole.

The Koran is not a book of science. But since science deals with nature and humans and because science and technology are very important aspects of human life and are a product of the human mind, the Koran, which contains ‘whatever is wet and dry’ either explicitly or implicitly or figuratively, certainly refers to on science and scientific progress.
But while science deals with nature and things for their own sake and concentrates on the question ‘how?’ The Qur’an calls them for the sake of God and for their most basic purpose as signs of Divine Existence and Oneness. as a manifestation of the Divine Names, and therefore as a means of gaining knowledge of God.
Second, the Koran seeks to guide people and instill faith and high standards of morality in them. Most of the people have no special knowledge of scientific facts or theories.
It is not appropriate for a guidebook intended for people of all ages to refer to natural things and events in a scientific way.
If the Koran mentions, say, the sun as a celestial body of this size and that, consisting of gases consisting of two thousand billion times billion tons of matter, with the remains of other elements and in it for every million hydrogen atoms there are about 85,000 atoms. helium, most people will be confused or indifferent.
As a comprehensive and conclusive Revelation, the Koran addresses all levels of understanding and intends to be understood, with beliefs and actions to follow understanding.
Since most people judge according to their feelings, the Koran uses the appropriate language and style.
For example, when telling the story of Dzulqarnain, the Koran says that he reached the setting of the sun and found the sun set in a fiery muddy spring (Surat al-Kahf 18:86).
It is clear that the sun does not set over the springs. But this verse, apart from providing many hints about certain later discovered facts, considers ordinary feelings.
First of all, we understand from the verse that Dzul-Qarnain went to the western end of the land adjacent to the water where no other land is visible. That is why most commentators of the Qur’an conclude that it is the Atlantic Ocean.
Second, the verse implicitly states that Dzul-Qarnain did not reach the shore from the land he conquered in the west but only advanced as far as the point where he could see the ocean like a spring.
Third, when he reached that point, it was a fiery summer day and, most likely due to the steam rising from the sea and the marshland bordering the sea, it appeared from afar like a muddy spring.
Fourth, the verse contains a subtle and important point. The word translated here also means eye and sun.
Just as the Qur’an, because of its high point of view, looks at the world from ‘on high’ and there are also countless eyes looking at the world from above, the ocean from that point of view, however large it may seem to the people here. world, seemingly no bigger than a spring.
Furthermore, there is a subtle allusion here to a time when those who believe in God will find sufficient strength and equipment to rule over, at least, most of the world and, ascend to heaven, observe the world from on high.
The statement just discussed consists of only five words. All Quranic statements contain a lot of information both explicitly and implicitly and figuratively to fulfill all levels of understanding at all times up to Judgment Day.
Another example is a statement consisting of only four words: The sun is moving (on its way) to its resting place (Surat Ya-Sin 36:38).
Meaning and Connotation
Before explaining the meaning and other connotations of this statement, we must remember that in the past people, judging again from their impressions, believed that the earth did not move as the sun moved around it.
Subsequent developments in science and observation showed that the earth rotates on its own axis and orbits a relatively motionless sun.
First of all, because people see the sun moving, the Qur’an refers to it as the sun moving. Second, the Qur’an mentions the sun here as an illustration of the magnificent order prevailing throughout the universe as a sign of God’s Knowledge and Power. The context is as follows:
The sign for them is night. We took it off today, and look! they are in darkness. And the sun moves (on its way) to its resting place. That is the measurement and ordination of the Almighty, the All -Knowing. And for the moon We have appointed mansions until it returns like a wrinkled old palm leaf. This is not for the sun to exceed the moon, nor for the night to exceed the day. They float, each in orbit. (Surat Ya-Sin 36: 37-40).
We understand from the statement in its context that the sun has a vital function in a universal order. The Qur’an uses the statement mustaqarr, which means a sure path to follow, stability and a place where stability is guaranteed.
So, this statement can be interpreted that the sun has a central position in the order of the universe. Second, the preposition used in conjunction with the word ‘stability1, li, has three meanings: to, to, and to.
Therefore, the true meaning of the statement consisting of four words is: The sun is moving along a route or path to a fixed place designated for it for the purpose of its (system) stability. In recent decades, solar astronomers have been able to observe that the sun is actually stationary. It shook and trembled and continued ringing like a well-hit gong.
These solar vibrations reveal important information about the sun’s deep interior, its hidden layers, information that influences calculating the age of the universe.
Additionally, knowing exactly how the sun rotates internally was important in testing Einstein’s general theory of relativity. Like many other important findings in astronomy, this discovery about the sun was completely unexpected.
After discovering a vibrating and ringing sun, some astronomers commented that it was as if it were a symphony orchestra, with all the instruments playing simultaneously. All the vibrations sometimes combine to produce a clean oscillation on the sun’s surface that is thousands of times stronger than any individual vibration.
Commenting on the verses of the Koran. The sun is moving to its resting place, decades before this totally unexpected discovery in astronomy, Said Nursi once wrote:
When the word ‘move’ points to a force, the phrase ‘on track’ denotes reality. The sun, like a ship made of gold, moves and floats on the celestial ocean which is made up of ether and is defined as a wave stretched and stretched.

Even though it vibrates and vibrates in its path or orbit, because people see it walking, the Koran uses the word walk or float. However, because the origin of the force of gravity is motion, the sun moves and vibrates in its orbit.
By means of this vibration, which is the wheel of its figurative motion, the satellites are attracted to it and are preserved from falling and scattering. When the tree trembled, the fruit fell. But, when the sun shakes and shakes, the fruit – the satellite – is protected from falling.
Again, wisdom requires that the sun must move and move on its moving throne – its course or orbit – accompanied by its soldiers – its satellites. Because Divine Power has made everything move and does not condemn anything to absolute rest or immovability.
Divine Mercy allows no one to be condemned to inertia who is a cousin of death. So, the sun is free, can travel as long as it obeys God’s laws and does not interfere with the freedom of others.
So, it may actually be traveling, for the journey may also be figurative. However, what is important according to the Koran is a universal order, whose wheels are the sun and its movement. Through the sun, stability and order are guaranteed (Muhakemat (Reasonings), Istanbul 1988, pp. 68-69). []
