The stable informed about the agreement with Viňales a week after it withdrew it from the Austrian Grand Prix due to the fact that it tried to damage the motorcycle in the previous race. The 26-year-old rider apologized for his behavior.
“Due to the events of the Styria Grand Prix and after some time to reflect, we finally agreed to end the cooperation immediately,” Yamaha said in a statement.
Viňales has been driving a Yamaha since 2017, when he replaced compatriot Jorge Lorenzo. The former Moto3 World Champion had a contract with the stable until the end of 2022. He won one race in the current year and is seventh in the standings with a loss of 86 points to the leader Fabio Quartarar from France.
