The Motion Picture (2021) – Movies – OutNow

Director Matt Thompson and screenwriter Dave Callahan, who have been drafts too Godzilla, Mortal Kombat or Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings wrote American history for an absolutely weird, loud, politically incorrect and action-packed animated film. And in a way that of course never happened, but can be told in a much funnier and faster way. With America: The Motion Picture bring a film to the public where you as a viewer ask yourself what exactly happened during the production. One thing is certain: The makers, speakers and other people involved had a lot of fun …

America: The Motion Picture not only turns history completely upside down and doesn’t give a damn about historical correctness, but lets the combat troops go into battle with lots of jokes, swipes, allusions and nonsense. Allusions to streaming platforms and well-known department store chains are just as important as references to films such as Robocop or John Wick. And when skinning Geronimo like Lorenzo Lamas once did in the TV series Renegade presented in its own opening credits, then that’s wonderfully weird. Even Jason Statham is allowed as The Transporter make a small guest appearance. And then there are many other cross-references and allusions that film fans in particular enjoy.

Not surprisingly follows America: The Motion Picture a simple story, but always deviates from it to celebrate gags, jokes and quark. The familiar voices go wonderfully with the characters, the animation style is kept simple and the action is served with the big spoon. Who back then about Team America: World Police Could laugh, will also watch with amusement when we are shown how the national bird was “invented” or what Lincoln really murdered in the theater back then.
