– I told my mother, and she was completely devastated. My parents were Jewish. My father was a doctor, so you would think he would have some idea, she said in the episode according to People and added:

– But no, not when it was his daughter. It was not possible.

Margolyes, who played Professor Pomona Stikling in Harry Potter, has been dating Australian historian Heather Sutherland since 1968.

In the documentary series, the 81-year-old actress opens up about her own story, while also delving into the history of LGBTQ+ rights in Australia.

In the episode, Margolyes will be seen participating in her very first ever Pride parade – in Tasmania in a wheelchair. The state was the last place in Australia to decriminalize homosexuality in 1997.

– When we tried to decriminalize homosexuality, there were big anti-gay meetings in Ulverstone, explained Tasmanian LGBTQ+ activist Rodney Croome.

– Tassie can now boast the most progressive LGBTQ+ laws in Australia. Although the battle is not over, I am proud to march – or rather roll – along here with them, said Margolyes.

Tassie is the colloquial term for the state of Tasmania.

After the episode aired, activist Croome tweeted:

“It was a privilege to show Miriam Margolyes how Tasmania has gone from worst to best on LGBTIQA+ human rights”.
