“Christmas is a truly special celebration for me. I will be here at the Gaeta market every weekend until January 6th, apart from a couple of times, when I will display my scented candles in Sora and the day Lazio plays at home, why in that case will I go to the stadium with my niece Giorgia and Arianna? On Christmas Eve and for Christmas, as per tradition, I won’t go to the markets again.” Anna Paratoremother of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the Fratelli d’Italia membership manager Ariannais in the midst of his favorite occupation these days. For years, in fact, he has set up a Christmas candle workshop in his home, in the Garbatella district, which he creates with his own hands and then sells them in the markets of Lazio, together with the garlands. Paratore was interviewed by Chi who met her in Gaeta.

Speaking of this passion of hers, here’s what her two daughters told her: “Mom, if you enjoy it, do it!”. And so I am here. At home I set up a laboratory and what’s more this year the candles are also scented. They are handmade, but have popular prices: they range from 10 to 35 euros, while the most elaborate centerpieces reach 45 euros.”
The prime minister’s mother then talks about what Christmas is like at the Meloni house: “We will spend it together, as always. It depends a lot on Giorgia’s commitments, she is the busiest. So, I don’t know if we will spend Christmas Eve with her and lunch Christmas from Arianna or the opposite. Giorgia would like to cook, but Arianna often takes the reins of the situation if she realizes that her sister is under too much pressure.”
On her relationship with her daughters, Paratore says: “As a young girl, Giorgia was very introverted. Locked in her room reading, almost antisocial, unlike Arianna who was always out with her friends. When Giorgia informed me that she would join the Front I was happy about her youth. If she had joined the Communist Federation, I wouldn’t have rejoiced, but I wouldn’t have opposed it, just to see her leave home a bit!”.
Speaking of Giorgia Meloni and her role as Prime Minister, he comments: “Everyone likes Giorgia because she has remained herself. Do I follow her when I can? Only from afar. Maybe at Atreju (the Fratelli d’Italia party, ed. ), sometimes. She would get upset, because she fears my judgment. She is the prime minister, but I continue to be a mother.”
