The “Mother of the Dog” from the “Synthesis” Art Scene – 2024-02-19 21:51:51

A new and very special performance is presented by the Artistic Stage of Epirus SYNTHESI after the recent success of “Miss Julia”. This time the team chose an award-winning and widely translated novel by Pavlos Matesi.

“Mother of the dog” staged by Eleftheria Pantazis and directed by the multi-experienced Giorgos Nakos is presented in the form of a theatrical monologue. The venue of the performance is also special since SYNTHESI chose to present the work in the lobby of the hotel (ERMIS, Sina 2).

It is a look back at the life of Roubinis Meskaris who worked as a theater artist under the artistic pseudonym Raraou and who was born in a provincial town called Epalxis. Raraou, now retired, talks mainly about her childhood and teenage years, just before the Second World War and the dark period of the Occupation in a country village. After the liberation, which Raraou ironically refers to as the “so-called” Liberation, she came with her mother, who had earlier been disguised as the mistress of an Italian officer, to Athens where they lived together in difficult circumstances. Through her fragmentary narratives, in her own special way, about her long-suffering life, we get to know the peripheral characters of the book.

The performances take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 20:30 in the lobby of the ERMIS hotel. The ticket costs €9.00 and the reduced ticket costs €7.00 (Unemployed, Disabled, Students, Over 65). Due to the limited number of seats, reservations are required. Reservations phone: 6947691698

The premiere of the show was set for January 20, a date that coincides with the 11-year anniversary of the death of the play’s author, Pavlos Matesi.

The Dog’s Mother has been performed in the theater as a dramatized novel in 2011 at the National Theater and at the Contemporary Theater in 2014, while in 2008 a monologue play based on the Dog’s Mother written by Pavel Kohut was successfully performed in the Czech Republic.
