Police check for signs of suspected abuse
Investigation into the suspected concealment of the father’s body
When her 15-month-old daughter died, the 30-year-old mother, who had been hiding the body for about three years, was arrested by the police. Police are checking the dead child’s skull for signs of suspected abuse and investigating whether there is any child abuse.
Pocheon Police Station in Gyeonggi-do announced on the 23rd that it was investigating A (34) for allegedly violating the Child Welfare Law and hiding a dead body. The police are investigating father B (29), who divorced A, on charges of concealment of the body.
Police believe that Mr. A killed his 15-month-old daughter C at her home in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province in early January 2020 due to frequent abandonment.
At the time of Miss C’s death, her biological father, Mr B, was serving a prison sentence, but police believe it was linked to the concealment of the body after release.
During the move, Mr A either put his daughter’s body in a large bag and left it on the veranda or put it in a plastic container and hid it on the roof.
Their crime was revealed by a report by Pocheon city officials. Miss C’s address is in Pocheon, her relative’s home, but Pocheon city, suspecting C’s refusal to register for health checkup or nursery for babies and toddlers, reported 112 on 27th last month .
Mr A is quoted as saying in a police investigation: “I saw the dead child in the morning and (regarding the concealment of the body) it appeared that the child would be suspected of having died because of me.”
The police requested an autopsy from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation, but explained that the cause of death was not yet known due to corruption. However, it was confirmed that there was a hole in the dead child’s skull, and Mr A’s suspicion of child abuse is also being investigated. A police official said: “It is difficult to confirm precisely whether the hole in the deceased child’s skull was made before or after death, as the result of a detailed examination by the National Forensic Service has yet to be released.”
The police are investigating the details of the accident, the motive for the crime and whether there are more people involved.
