The eleventh edition of the Traveler Review Award, published by the Booking website, has drawn up, among other things, a ranking of the most welcoming tourist destinations in the world. The top 10 is led by a location in southern Italy, although San Sebastián (Spain) slips into third place, thus closing the podium. We found out which cities and towns have been honored this year.
This year the Booking ranking has chosen Polignano a Mare as the most welcoming destination in the world. The Apulian city, which for years has attracted many tourists from all over the planet, is characterized not only by its splendid beach (Lama Monachile) and its center overlooking the Adriatic Seabut also for a type of unique enogastronomic offer, combined with the atmosphere that reigns in each alley.
In second place is a little-known place, the city of Hualien in Taiwan, famous for its unique beaches, indigenous culture (in fact, it is home to 7 of the island’s 14 indigenous tribes), splendid night markets and numerous natural and scenic spaces.
Another European destination completes the podium. We are talking about the Basque city of San Sebastián, in Spain, a destination overlooking the Bay of Biscay famous for the famous La Concha beach and Ondarreta Beach, as well as its characteristic historic center (Old Town).
Just touching the podium we find Dresden, a characteristic city of the Saxony region. It is also known as the “Florence on the Elbe” due to its numerous baroque architectural monuments and Rococo and its location on the banks of the Elbe River.
Fifth place is still European. In this case it is Klaipeda, which also represents the only Lithuanian port on the Baltic Sea. The city is characterized above all by its teutonic spiritwhich is also noticeable in its buildings, among which the Soviet influence is also clearly recognizable.
In sixth place is York, England, a city that can boast a very ancient past. It was built by the Romans and is now famous for its cobbled streetsits great Gothic cathedral, its leafy abbey and its museums.
Seventh place is occupied by a unique South American town. This is Ushuaia, in Argentina, which is located in the extreme south of the country. It is the capital of Tierra del Fuego. It is a unique site of its kind, just think that the cruises to Antarctica and Yécapasela Island depart from here, known as “penguin island”.
Same continent for the eighth position, where Porto de Galinhas is located, in Brazil. It is a beach in the territory of the municipality of Ipojuca, in the Pernambuco region. The region’s nightlife, including clubs, bars and discoswould be the envy of the most glamorous European places.
