The report is an attempt to highlight humanitarian crises, which affect millions of people every single day.

Every year, the organizations make a list of crises that they believe have been forgotten.

These are the “ten most underreported crises” in 2023:

The list has been prepared in collaboration with the media monitoring agency Meltwater. They have viewed over five million online articles in English, French, Spanish, German and Arabic.

All the crises are on the African continent, as they did the year before.

For the second year in a row, Angola tops the list of the world’s most underreported crises, writes CARE. The country is in deep crisis after a long civil war, drought and floods.

Of the articles examined, just over a thousand deal with the crisis in Angola.

“In comparison, 273,279 articles were published about the Barbie film,” writes CARE.

Princess Diana set the spotlight

Improving living conditions in Angola was close to Princess Diana’s heart. In 1997, nine months before she was killed, she visited the country.

The purpose was to contribute to banning the use of landmines. Among other things, she visited an area that was previously a life-threatening minefield, which had been cleared and made safe.

The trip to Angola was the first trip the princess made on her own after her divorce from Prince Charles.
