The FA Cup is synonymous with history in England. Many of the leagues that are known today in Europe and the world had not even been structured when the ball was already rolling through the British courts in dispute for the trophy dating from the 19th century.
It was in 1872 when the Wanderers Football Club raised the first glass in that edition that was marked for history as the first. In the final, the now extinct team from London prevailed 1-0 over the Royal Engineers. The following year they would repeat with a 2-0 score against Oxford University. Since then, 44 different clubs have won it, at least on one occasion. Of that number, six have won it twice, a couple have won the treble and three more have added four cups to their showcases.
This Saturday June 3, the two representatives of Manchester will face each other -for the first time in history- in the final of the competition. Here United have been more successful than their sky-blue rivals, as they have 12 titles, beating City’s six. The last time they lifted it was in 2015-2016, while Pep Guardiola’s celebrated in 2018-2019.
